Building and Permits

Saline’s Building Department is here to answer your permitting questions. Our hours of operation are from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.

The Building Department can be reached at (734) 429-8296. Selecting option #1 will get you connected through to our permit technician immediately.

For general inquiries, please email permits@cityofsaline.org and a member of our staff will follow up with you.

Contractor Registration

The City of Saline requires all contractors to register with the Building Department prior to applying for permits. If you have not previously registered, please fill out this form and email it to our Permit Technician, Danica Katnik - dkatnik@cityofsaline.org.

Applying For Trade Permits

The City currently accepts and encourages all trade permits (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) to be submitted via our online portal which can be found here

Applying For Building Permits

The City is still in the process of transitioning our building permits to an online format. In the interim, please find the relevant application(s) below and email them to our Permit Technician, Danica Katnik - dkatnik@cityofsaline.org.

Pay for Permits

Saline also accepts checks mailed in or hand-delivered to City Hall. Checks must be made out to the City of Saline. Saline accepts cash payments, but they must be made in person at City Hall.

Because of the wide variety of roles and responsibilities of the Building Official, we encourage you to call the Building Department's main phone line before reaching out to the Building Official directly. Our staff can review ongoing permit activities and have been trained to answer most questions.

The Building Official oversees the Building Department. The Building Official is responsible for researching and answering questions regarding building code. The Building Official also coordinates reviews of building plans and also coordinates and performs building inspections. Additionally, the Building Official oversees the scheduling of inspections, building forms, informational handouts, as well as building permit receipt, payment, and issuance.
