Water Clarity Handout

Ben from our water and wastewater team joined us for this video to provide some insight on the work that is being completed and the expected timeline for improvements.
Thank you everyone for your patience as we continue to improve our local infrastructure through ongoing capital investment. In the meantime, please consider submitting any water clarity complaints using our online Citizen Reporting Tool to help us track and troubleshoot problem areas.

WWTP Siting Study
A siting study was completed for the City of Saline Wastewater Treatment Plant in 2020. This study looks at improving the existing plant as well as siting a new plant. You can read the study in its entirety: WWTP Siting Study.

If you experience odor from the treatment plant, please submit a concern in our Citizen Reporting Tool. A staff member will follow up as they are able.

watertreatmentDrinking Water Treatment Plant
The City’s WTP began operation in May of 2005. The plant removes iron and manganese through the use of greensand filters. Hardness is removed using reverse osmosis membranes. The plant has a daily maximum output capacity of 3.5 million gallons per day and produces on average 1.2 million gallons per day. Routine water testing is performed daily and monitoring for contaminants is done on a regular basis to insure the quality of our water.

The City’s Annual Water Quality Report is available in PDF form. This report shows our water quality and what it means. We want our valued customers to be informed about their water utility. The City of Saline routinely monitors for contaminants in your drinking water according to Federal and State laws. In 2009, our system had no violations. If you have any questions about this report or concerning your water utility, please contact Bill Brigs at (734) 429-7625 x2324.

watertreatment3Wastewater Treatment Plant
The Wastewater Plant treats an average of 1 million gallons of wastewater per day. Treatment is accomplished through a combination of biological, chemical and physical processes. Rotating Biological Contractors, settling tanks, ferric chloride and chlorine addition are some of the treatment processes used. Our water is tested every day for several pollutants and is discharged to the Saline River. Limitations are established in our discharge permit, which is issued by the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality.

Active updates are now underway as part of the Wastewater Treatment Plant Rehabilitation. Provided below for reference are archives of previous status reports. Current information is available at WWTP Rehabilitation Project. Residents can also sign up for updates through that project page.
