Architectural Description: This is a one-and-one-half story, side gabled Craftsman/Bungalow style house. Similar to the houses at 213 and 215 South Ann Arbor Street, there are wide overhanging eaves with triangular knee bracing and exposed rafters. This house has a full-width wooden decked porch that is enclosed on the south end and has small square columns resting on a solid balustrade. The front dormer is also full-width and contains two sets of ribbon windows. There is a break in the roofline in the front and rear of the house and another break in the porch roofline. The house sits on a fieldstone foundation, has vinyl siding, and a brick chimney on the south elevation.

History: This house was built in 1910. The original owners were Jacob and Wilhelmina Fuoss, who lived here until 1947. Jacob’s parents had lived on South Ann Arbor Street, where they once owned several lots. Jacob built his home at 216 South Ann Arbor Street and his brother, Martin built the house next door, at 218. The 1872 Bird’s Eye View of Saline showed several houses had once been located in the approximate location of 216-218. The Study Committee Report of South Ann Arbor Street states that a previous house in this location was probably torn down. The 1910 Saline City Directory listed Jacob’s occupation as a teamster (Kosky & Glynn).
